Last week, we saw how one type of rock (igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic) can change into another using the rock cycle. Then we delved deeper into the types of sedimentary rocks and began to look at how the Grand Canyon formed. This week we'll continue by checking out the process scientists went through to gather evidence to prove how the Grand Canyon formed. Two types of weathering - physical and chemical - were used to form the Grand Canyon, and we'll be investigating how these types of weathering help form various natural wonders around the world. Today, your Plate Tectonics tests will be released and an email will be sent home to parents/guardians asking them to acknowledge the grade you received on the test. They are welcome to send back an email or hand-written note. Extra help is available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
This week we'll begin our new unit - Rocks, Weathering, & Erosion - by checking out the rock cycle. The main types of rock - Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic - can change. As solid and still as rocks seem, they are always in transition - changing from one rock into another through different processes. You will discover how these processes happen in a lab investigation this week. Later in the week, we will check out how rock is broken down through the processes called weathering & erosion. Weathering & erosion create some incredible rock formations like the one seen here - The Wave at Paria Canyon in Utah. Last day for Plate Tectonics Test retakes is Wednesday after school. (make sure to email Mr. Bowles with a day and he'll email your test to you) Trimester grades close on Wednesday, so know your grade in Powerschool and check-in with Mr. Bowles about any missing assignments. After school help is available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday this week. Stay curious and keep looking for answers! |
