Last week we took some time to analyze how the pressure and density of Earth's layers change as we move towards the core. This week, you will use your graph and explanation to help you create a Layers of Earth Digital Poster using Google Drawings. You will be provided in-class time this week to complete this project and it will be due at the beginning of class on Thursday. On Thursday, we will take some time to review for Friday's Layers of Earth Quiz (2 bars). If you have any questions or concerns about the project or quiz throughout the week, don't hesitate to let Mr. Bowles know. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
We've got a busy, but great week ahead in science. To start, we will be continuing with Layers of Earth notes and also be looking at how Non-Newtonian liquids react when pressure is applied to them. We'll then be collecting data and graphing it to analyze how the pressure created by Earth's layers affects the layers' temperature & density. Later in the week, once the first flashcard assignment is completed, we will look at strategies you can use to be more efficient and effective while studying for exams. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask or email Mr. Bowles. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
This week, we will be taking some time to recap on the Bubble Lab from last Friday and look at how your experiences relate to the scientific method. You will also be creating your own digital portfolio using Google Sites - this will be used as a personalized space to upload and reflect on your work throughout the year. Then we will finally be digging into this year's topics by checking out our first book, Inside Earth, where we will be looking into plate tectonics - beginning with the layers of Earth. We will also be looking at Non-Newtonian liquids and how they react when pressure is applied to them. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask or email Mr. Bowles. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
Welcome back to your first full week of school! We are going to hit the ground running this week. We will start off by checking out the daily routines, then go on to review safety procedures in the science lab to prepare for our first lab this week. On Wednesday, we will take some time to review the course description (once you all have your chromebooks) and write some goals for the first semester. Then at the end of the week, you will be performing The Bubble Lab. During this lab, you will answer the question - Which type of soap (Palmolive or Ivory) will make the biggest bubbles?. You will be creating your own procedure and deciding which materials make sense to use. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to email Mr. Bowles for help. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
