As you continue your investigation this week into the question, "How can a coastal city, like Boston, be redesigned to lessen the impact of bigger storms and rising sea levels?", you will begin by creating rough draft drawings of your design/s to explain how they will work. As you know, these drawings can be done either by hand or digitally (Google Drawings, Tinkercad, etc.). We will also be checking out how cities around the world have been trying to answer this same question you're working on and see if your designs might benefit from any of these real-world ideas. As we head toward the end of the week, and before you start working on your final draft drawings, your designs will be challenged by a number of questions this week to see if your designs will work well in the real-world. After school help will be available Tuesday and Thursday this week. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
This week you will continue your investigation into the question, "How can a coastal city, like Boston, be redesigned to lessen the impact of bigger storms and rising sea levels?". We'll start off by continuing to give feedback on each other's solutions to this question by looking at the concept maps you began making last week. Then you'll take time to reflect on the feedback you received from others and incorporate any new ideas into your design if you think they will make it more effective. The next step is to create rough draft drawings of your design/s which can be done either by hand or digitally. The rubric for this project will be shared on Tuesday, so you have a better understanding of the requirements and where we will be heading next. After school help will be available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
Welcome back from a warm winter weekend. As mentioned last week, 8th grade Science MCAS will be coming up this Spring and I would like as much feedback from you to help you prepare for this test. Again, it's different from the Math & English MCAS because it tests you on 6th, 7th, & 8th grade science. In what areas of science do you need the most help? What can be done to help increase your knowledge and confidence?
This week, you will be faced with a design challenge with the central question being: How can a coastal city, like Boston, be redesigned to lessen the impact of bigger storms and rising sea levels? Global warming is melting the ice caps and the reality is that this issue affects every coastal community around the world - what can you do to help? What solutions can we come up with? Stay curious and keep looking for answers! |
