This week we'll begin using a lot of what we learned about weather to help us understand the science behind climate change. The majority of the scientific community believes greenhouse gases (like carbon dioxide, methane, & water vapor) are the main reason that Earth's temperature is rising and the ice caps are melting. These scientists also believe that humans are causing global warming. All of these greenhouse gases though are both naturally occurring and human made. Because of this, there is a small group of scientists who believe that humans are NOT causing global warming or that there is just not enough evidence yet to prove that we're causing global warming. Each side has strong arguments with credible evidence - it's up to you to decide which side is right. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
This week we'll be taking some time to analyze the data you all found from high & low air pressure systems around the world using the earth: a global map of wind, weather, and ocean conditions. This data will help us understand the types of weather we can expect to see in these types of systems. We'll also recap on the Cloud in a Beaker lab from Friday - connecting the results to high and low air pressure systems. The whole point of us focusing on air pressure systems is that they drive all the weather on Earth. If we understand how they behave we can better predict what types of weather they'll produce - like rain, snow, thunderstorms, hurricanes, & tornadoes. Mr. Bowles will be out on Thursday and Friday this week for Sources of Strength training, but after school help will still be available Monday & Thursday. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
