By the end of this week we will be finishing up with the unit on Mapping Earth's Surface. Before that though, we will continue our work on understanding how to read topographic maps and the wealth of information they hold. We will continue our investigation into the topography around Mt Rainier in
Washington state. Then we will move a little closer to home and begin to look at the topography in the forests of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. You will be writing a trail description of a hiking trail in MA or NH using full size topographic maps. Stay curious and keep looking for answers! Welcome back and happy new year! Now that you're all rested up after vacation, it's time to finish up the Volcano's Take-Home Report you started before break. Monday will be the last in-class day to work on the report, but it will be turned in during class on Wednesday (so you still have two more nights to work on it). This week, we will begin checking out our next textbook Earth's Changing Surface by looking at mapping and topography. You will learn a bit about the history behind making maps and learn how to read and use topographical maps (maps that show the changes in elevation of an area on a 2D surface). Make sure to bring in your Inside Earth textbook from home, so you can get your new one. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
