Welcome back from a nice, long weekend! This week we'll be finishing up with our small unit on Geologic Time, begin our new book on Weather & Climate, and begin to the build-up towards Science MCAS (May 12th & 13th). First, we will finish up the movie on the Geologic History of the Grand Canyon, then there will be an open binder quiz (2 bars) during Tuesday's class - no studying necessary, just be familiar with the topic. Online MCAS prep will be introduced to help familiarize you with the type of questions you are likely to see from each area of science - Earth, Life, and Physical. And last, but not least, we will begin our new book on Weather and Climate - discovering how weather develops and looking at the patterns meteorologists see to predict weather. Your Erosion & Deposition Tests will be returned on Tuesday. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
This week we move on to our next unit Geologic Time - during which we will discover how Earth developed and how evidence of its long history is found within its layers. We will not only look at Earth's periods of life, but also how we know they existed through fossil records. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
This week we will be finishing up the Erosion & Deposition Unit by checking out how both wind and glaciers erode Earth's surface. A test (4 bars) for this unit will be on Friday (3/18) and your study guide will be handed out on Monday. Thursday's class will be open, to give you time to ask questions about the study guide and to play a Kahoot!. On Thursday afternoon, an answer key for the study guide will be posted on the homepage of the website, as well as the Kahoot!. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after school there will be extra help. Study hard, ask questions, stay curious, and keep looking for answers!
After a busy week last week, we'll settle-in to discover how Earth's surface is affected by the different types of erosion - water (rivers and ocean), glacial, and wind. We'll also investigate the dilemma that Louisiana faces - its coastline is disappearing because of erosion. Some people are making plans to find a way to build coastal land, while others explain that it will hurt the economy. We will look more closely at the issue and both of sides of the argument. Remember, if you and your group have not tested your debris flow prevention design, you must test it either Monday or Tuesday afternoon (after that, it cannot be tested). Also, don't forget to turn in your reflection (Google Form) which can be found in Google Classroom - it is due Wednesday at the latest. Stay curious and keep looking for answers!
